The Douglasville Downtown Development Authority will celebrate National Ice Cream Day by hosting an ice cream social on Sunday, July 19 from 3 to 6pm on O’Neal Plaza. The event is part of a yearlong campaign to recruit an ice cream shop in downtown Douglasville. Several city departments will be participating in the activities including the Douglasville Police Department, Convention & Visitors Bureau, Parks and Recreation Department, and the Douglasville Conference Center.

“We are very excited to host the ice cream social in downtown Douglasville,” said Douglasville Downtown Development Authority Director Patrice R. Williams. “We initially started discussing this in the office back in January as a way to help highlight the community’s desire to bring an ice cream shop to our downtown. But now that it’s here, we also see it as a way to help celebrate our downtown and everything it has to offer to the residents and business community.”

Over the past 16 months, more than 50 businesses have opened in downtown Douglasville. While several of the businesses have located in Station Loft Works, many of the business are located along Broad and Church Streets.

“My phone is still ringing off the hook from potential business owners looking to locate in our downtown,” said Williams. “This is an exciting time for our community. Douglasville is being recognized statewide for the economic development taking place in the downtown.”

Along with focusing on economic development, through the Douglasville Main Street Program, the Downtown Development Authority has been focusing on promoting events in the downtown. “We’ve had a number of fun events this year including Hot Rods on Main, On the Reel Film Festival, and Destination Downtown,” said Main Street Manager April McKown. With the help of our volunteers, we are able to help create a sense of place in our downtown where our residents can create memories that will last a life time.”

Our many thanks to April McKown from Main Street Douglasville for the info and press release!
