Villa Rica Elementary Receives SHAPE Grant

(Carrollton, Ga. – October 13, 2015) Villa Rica Elementary School has received a $5,000 SHAPE Grant to enhance the school’s physical activity and nutrition efforts to improve outcome measures associated with the Georgia School Health and Physical Education Act and nutrition guidelines outlined in the USDA’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. This grant is provided through the Georgia Department of Public Health

As part of the grant, the school will identify a health champion, establish a wellness council, conduct an approved school health assessment, identify two nutrition priorities, one physical activity priority, attend a statewide “best practices” meeting, participate in training/technical assistance, and submit a final report of the activities and outcomes to the Georgia Department of Public Health. Assistant Principal Mitch Springer, PE teacher Michael Mitchell, and classroom teacher Vicky Bell will attend the Best Practices meeting in Macon on October 15​.

The school was a part of the Governor’s SHAPE Honor Roll this past school year as a Platinum Award Winner.
