***Update: The Verizon Store on Hwy 5 is now open!

Since tax season closed out last spring, the old Tax City USA location on Hwy 5 next to Red Lobster and Value Village has been vacant waiting on a local store or retailer to take that prime spot. Tax City USA moved over to Stewart Pkwy next to the Century Arbor Place Apartments over the summer. Over the weekend, a new banner appeared on the store indicating not only did someone take that spot, but it was a national retailer. Verizon Wireless will be taking over the old Tax City USA spot and opening its 2nd freestanding store within Douglasville City Limits. The current location on Chapel Hill Rd and Timber Ridge Dr next to Starbucks will remain open as well. Work is being done on the store now, with workers inside painting the store the usual Verizon crimson red, with the Verizon logo on the outside door. The store looks a few weeks away from being done, and at this time, no indication that Verizon will be updating or remodeling the outside of the store. We’ll let you know when they open. This is a good sign for the Hwy 5 corridor as it appears national retailers are still interested in opening on the aging parts of the corridor. We hope for more to follow.
