Mt. Zion Middle School Jr. Beta Club Attended the Jr. Beta State Convention

(Carrollton, Ga. ­ December 7, 2015) Twenty­five members of the MZMS Jr. Beta Club attended the Jr. Beta State Convention in Macon, Georgia on November 19 and 20. Eighteen of these students competed in academic or artistic competitions. The following students competed in individual competitions: Emily Phillips­math, Carrina Moreland­science, Davis Roberts­social studies, Allison Gibson­Language Arts, Candace Chrzan­spelling, and Jacob Perry­poetry. The following teams of students competed in the following competitions: Academic Quiz Bowl—Allison Gibson, Aaron Brown, Jacob Perry, and Alex Nguyen. Tower of Power (physics)—Hunter Tilson, Jarred Knight, Brianna Luallen, Noah Robinson, Kendrick Brownlow. Visual Design—Shania Chavez, Jennifer Morales, Emma Fordham, and Gracie Rankin. The visual design team placed second at the state competition. All members who attended participated in the election of new state officers. Mrs. Sharon Morgan has been the Jr. Beta Sponsor for the past six years and this is the fifth year the group has attended the state convention.

Six-time STAR teacher, Alice taught Advanced Placement English, literature, composition, speech and theater for over twenty years, part of which time she also served as Director of Admissions, Development, Public Relations, and Alumni at Oak Mountain Academy. She is a board member of the Carroll Symphony Orchestra and enjoys playing flute with the Carroll Community Wind Ensemble.
