Exciting news from the county this past week. We got word from District Attorney Brian Fortner’s office that a new Assistant District Attorney has been appointed, one with an impressive resume and education. We got the press release from Douglas County Happenings:
***JOE CUSACK NAMED ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY***
Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph (Joe) Cusack  as Assistant District Attorney. Mr. Cusack will be prosecuting cases in the Superior Court of Judge Beau McClain.
Mr. Cusack earned his Bachelor of Arts (History) from the University of Georgia and Juris Doctor from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law. As an undergraduate, he was a member of Delta Epsilon Iota History Honor Society. During Law School, he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta (Law Fraternity), the Mercer Law Trial Lawyers Association, and involved in athletics and intramurals.   Â
He interned during Law School with the Bibb County Superior Court, the Walton County Public Defender’s Office, and the Georgia State Attorney General’s Office Special Prosecutions Division. His internships, plus law clerk experience, gave him experience in opposing viewpoints – both defense and prosecution – and helped him determine that prosecution was the path he wanted to follow in his legal career. While having great respect for defense, especially the work of Public Defenders, Mr. Cusack felt that prosecution fulfilled the law and order purpose that he had in seeking the profession.
A native of Lilburn, Georgia, Mr. Cusack is active in sports and his Church.
District Attorney Fortner welcomed him to the staff stating “Joe brings enthusiasm, energy and fresh ideas to the District Attorney’s Office, and we are glad to have him with us.”
As always, thanks to Wes Tallon at the county for providing us with this wonderful news for Douglas County. We wish new ADA Joe Cusack the best as he begins this new phase of his career.
