Release: Chapel Hill High School Softball Team Recognized By BOC.

Another great community story to lead off this post Easter week. One of our great High School teams being recognized by the County Board of Commissioners. Thanks as always to Wes Tallon for the release:

DOUGLAS COUNTY COMMISSION RECOGNIZES CHAPEL HILL HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL TEAM AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONS

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners recently recognized the 2015 Chapel Hill High School Softball Team AAAAA State Champions.  Chairman Tom Worthan bragged on the team, its coaches, and the school’s program which has produced:

  • 26 college signees in 15 graduating classes;
  • 13 State playoff appearances in 16 seasons;
  • 8 Sweet Sixteen appearances in 16 seasons;
  • 6 Elite Eight appearances in 16 seasons; and
  • the 2015 State Championship.

Head Coach Mickey Harper, the only softball coach in the school’s history, was the 2015 State of Georgia Coach of the Year, and has been awarded the Regional Coach of the Year five times.  Assistant Coach Robert Nail, who has been with the program for 15 years, was named Assistant Coach of the Year 2015 by the Georgia Dugout Club.  Assistant Coaches Allen and Trowell have been with the program for three seasons.

The 2015 CHHS team amassed an enviable 32-3 record – 91.4 winning percentage – and since the program inception, the CHHS softball program has a 71.3 winning percentage. 

The 2015 team produced 7 All-Region Players:  Kira Morgan (1st team), Ivory Jones (2nd team), Paige Vincent (2nd team), Bella Caricari (1st team), Shelby Robinson (2nd team), Savana Sikes (1st team), and Ashley Morgan (1st team).  Four members of the team earned All-State honors:  Bella Caricari (1st team), Shelby Robinson (honorable mention), Savana Sikes (1st team), and Ashley Morgan (1st team).  Ashley Morgan was named the Georgia Dugout Club’s AAAAA Player of the Year, and the GACA AAAAA Player of the Year.
