DAR
(Carrollton, Ga. April 19, 2016) The Carroll County Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently named this year’s DAR Good Citizens and the student with the highest averages in US History.

Colt Crews was named the DAR Good Citizen for Bowdon High School. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. Colt will be graduating next month and
plans to attend WGTC in the fall and study to be a machinist with hopes of owning his own organic farming business and restoring tractor and farm implements.

Haleigh Sheets was recognized for having the highest average in US History at BHS. Haleigh is a junior and is taking college courses at WGTC as a dual enrolled student. Haleigh plans to attend Georgia Highlands College after she graduates to study to be a Dental Hygienist. BHS is proud of Colt and Haleigh for their hard work in the classroom and community.

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

DAR members volunteer millions of service hours annually in their local communities including supporting active duty military personnel and assisting veteran patients, awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and supporting schools for underserved children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.
