Carroll County Names New District Director of Teaching and Learning

(Carrollton, Ga. ­ May 3, 2016) During the Thursday, April 21, 2016 board meeting, The Carroll County Board of Education approved Mr. Travis Thomas as the new Director of Teaching and Learning for Middle and Secondary Grades.

Mr. Thomas earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree from Davidson College, his Masters in Secondary Education from the University of West Georgia, his Master’s and Specialist in Educational Leadership from Jacksonville State University, and is currently set to graduate with his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Alabama. Mr. Thomas started his career in education as a teacher, basketball coach, and athletic director at Oak Mountain Academy. In 1998, Mr. Thomas joined Carroll County Schools as a teacher and basketball coach for Villa Rica High School. Mr. Thomas moved to Jonesville Middle School in 2004 as the Assistant Principal before moving to Villa Rica Middle School as Principal in 2006. He then was hired for the Principal position for Bowdon High School in 2008. Mr. Thomas stated, “I am very excited about this opportunity. I believe in the Carroll County School System and am looking forward to working for the students, teachers and administrators in this new role.”

Superintendent Scott Cowart shared that Mr. Thomas is a natural fit for the district director position. “Mr. Thomas has served Carroll County successfully at the middle and high school levels. He brings extensive knowledge of the challenges that our schools face and a passion for wanting to help our schools excel.”

Mr. Thomas and his wife Candy have 2 children, Rett (13) and Ty (11).
