(Carrollton, Ga. May 11, 2016) Mount Zion Middle School students Mauldin Mendez and Dennis Rodriguez were recently recognized for their first place finish in the Carroll County Regional Stock Market Game which is sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education. Their team won first place out of 46 teams during the spring season of the game. On May 2, 2016, they attended a winners’ luncheon in Atlanta at the Old Atlanta Railroad Depot.
With equity markets as the model, the Stock Market Game is designed to give Georgia teachers a tool for showing students how scarcity, trade, opportunity cost, voluntary exchange, price incentive, specialization, productivity, and many other economic concepts play out in financial institutions they hear about in the news almost daily. Unlike real equity markets, the Stock Market Game offers students a safe and painfree place to learn that the lessons of market economics can sometimes be costly.
