Pink flamingos have flocked to west Georgia to help Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well kick off its #SummerOfHealth campaign.

Flamingos are the perfect symbol of having fun in the sun, so be on the lookout for these colorful birds this summer. Get Healthy, Live Well is organizing fun, family-friendly activities that encourage community members to be more active and eat healthier all summer long.

“With summer fast approaching, Get Healthy, Live Well wants to remind everyone that eating healthy and exercising can be fun,” said Patricia Mitchell, wellness and prevention coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well. “This campaign will provide opportunities for families to not only spend quality time together, but to get and stay healthy.”

Get Healthy, Live Well will be offering a series of healthy lifestyle challenges throughout the summer. The community is encouraged to share what they are doing to get and stay healthy this summer. They can do this by posting pictures or making comments on social media with the hashtag #SummerOfHealth.

In addition to the challenges, Get Healthy, Live Well has a variety of activities planned for the summer, including the “Light up the Night” family bike ride parade at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton on June 24 and activities at the AMP on family movie nights.

Get Healthy, Live Well has also partnered with the Main Street programs in Carrollton and Villa Rica to host an exciting “Find the Flamingo” scavenger hunt to kick off its #SummerOfHealth campaign. Visit www.GetHealthyLiveWell.org to download a scavenger hunt passport that includes a list of the flamingo’s hiding places or go to each city’s Main Street office and pick one up. When a flamingo is found, the merchant will sign or stamp the passport.

There is no charge to participate in the scavenger hunt. Participants must be 18 years old or younger. Collect 10 or more signatures and stamps then bring the passport to the Happy Flappy Flamingo Festival to receive a flamingo pin and Frisbee.

The Carrollton festival will be held on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The AMP. The Villa Rica festival will be held on June11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The MILL. In addition to receiving a prize for collecting 10 signatures, qualifying participants will be entered into a drawing to win a gift basket filled with Get Healthy, Live Well items, a “Sylvie” book and a stuffed flamingo.

Participants must be present at the festival to win a prize. To be included in the drawing, participants in the Carrollton scavenger hunt must present their passports prior to 12:30 p.m. on June 4. Participants in the Villa Rica scavenger hunt must present their passports prior to 7:30 p.m. on June 11. The odds of winning depend on the total number of participants.
