Mini Roundabout Coming Monday Night to the SR 16/SR 54 Intersection in Coweta County

THOMASTON – Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will install a mini Roundabout at the intersection of SR 16 and SR 54 in Coweta County beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, June 27.

Resurfacing of the intersection has already occurred. On Monday, June 27 at 7 p.m., crews will begin placing Qwick Kurb throughout the intersection which will channel motorists through the mini roundabout. The new intersection with mini roundabout installed is scheduled to be fully operational Tuesday morning, June 28.

Motorists are advised to be alert to changing traffic patterns at the intersection and will be directed through this work zone using a flagger.

The Towns of Turin, Sharpsburg and surrounding areas in eastern Coweta County have experienced significant population growth in recent years. As a result, there is a need to provide operational efficiencies as traffic moves throughout Coweta County.

This is an interim project to address the immediate need as the Georgia DOT and Coweta County continue to work on the long term solution for this intersection.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the operational efficiency of the existing intersection of SR 16 and SR 54 and reduce the frequency and severity of crashes at the intersection and approaches.

The SR 16/SR 54 modern Roundabout will improve operational movement on both State Routes.

The scheduled opening date of the project is late June; weather permitting. For questions on this project, please email SR54/[email protected]
