Finally, the restaurant with the second most viewer votes. Mama Lucia’s is found in the heart of Ashley Park in Newnan, GA. When you look at the restaurant you wouldn’t think it would be very large, but picture a main bar that will seat 20 easily and three to four areas that have plenty of seats. The décor is what you find in most Italian restaurants, pictures of Italy, fruit, etc. In the background Italian music plays. The wine list is over 4 pages long, and the wait staff can make recommendations depending on your meal. We ordered fried ravioli. It was stuffed with fresh mozzarella, and the breading was seasoned with parsley and other Italian spices. The sauce was the house marinara which was chunky with fresh diced tomatoes and fired-roasted sweet peppers to give it a slightly sweet taste.
For our entree we had grilled chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken pesto. The noodles for the chicken pesto were slightly over-cooked, but the pesto sauce was spot on with fresh basil shining through. The Meatballs were large and moist. I could taste the Italian sausage with a slight kick of heat, so the sweetness of the marinara sauce made for a perfect combination. The chicken was average with the Dijon mustard sauce as the star of the dish. Overall, the place is kid friendly, wait staff is nice, and the food is well above average. If you want Italian in Newnan, this is the place to go.
