News from Wes Tallon with Douglas County:

****VEHICLE TAG RENEWALS NOW AVAILABLE VIA A SELF-SERVICE KIOSK IN THE HOSPITAL DRIVE KROGER****

Douglas County Tax Commissioner Todd Cowan and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners have just made it even more convenient for residents to renew car tag registrations – all it takes is a visit to the grocery store!

A self-service tag renewal kiosk has been installed inside the Kroger store at 8501 Hospital Drive in Douglasville.  It is located adjacent to the store’s pharmacy.  At this time, Douglas County is one of only seven counties in the State to offer a self-service kiosk for this purpose.

The new kiosk has been installed to benefit residents looking to renew vehicle registrations at a convenient location outside of Courthouse business hours, including the weekends.  The Kroger-based kiosk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week – whenever the store is open – to renew vehicle registrations and print/dispense license plate stickers.  The kiosk has the capacity to renew up to 10 vehicles in one transaction.  The cost is $3.95 per transaction plus a 2% credit card fee.

Tax Commissioner Todd Cowan said “our goal is to make the tag renewal process more convenient for our residents.  When I took office in 2009, I promised excellent customer service, and this is another step in that direction.  I appreciate the support and cooperation from Chairman Worthan and the Board of Commissioners in making this happen.”

To use the kiosk, customers simply enter their tag number, the VIN number, or driver’s license number to retrieve their registrations.  Once retrieved, and one or more vehicles are selected for renewal, the kiosk will electronically verify that the vehicle has passed the required emission test, and that there is adequate vehicle insurance.  The vehicle owner then swipes a debit or credit card for payment; the license plate sticker prints out; and the sticker can be immediately placed on the vehicle tag.  The kiosk accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and VISA.
