Work has begun on several intersection improvements along the Highway 5 corridor within the city of Douglasville. In partnership with GDOT, the county is upgrading several well-known, congested intersections to improve traffic flow through the city. The first project has begun in front of the Wesley Pond Apartments and Red Lobster entrance. Where currently there is no intersection, one is now being constructed as a turn lane into the entrance. The construction will require lane closures between the Arbor Parkway and Stewart Parkway/W. Stewart Mill Road intersections; delays might be possible, especially during peak traffic hours. Plans are also in the works to upgrade the Arbor Parkway, Stewart Parkway/W. Stewart Mill Road, and the Concourse Parkway intersections. Long-term plans include upgrades to the intersection of Highway 5 with Douglas Boulevard and both ramps from Highway 5 to Interstate 20. We’ll keep you posted on progress and let you know if we get any site plans for the future projects.
