7PM 2/22 UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory Citywide

PUBLIC NOTICE FROM CITY OF CARROLLTON: ALL CARROLLTON WATER CUSTOMERS UNDER A BOIL WATER ADVISORY: A water main break is causing water pressure in parts of the water system to drop to dangerously low levels. When this occurs a potential health hazard may exist in these areas of zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water into the water distribution system.

In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, all City water customers are advised to “boil” all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.

Citizens should continue to boil their water until they are notified by the City that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

City of Carrollton work crews are currently working to repair a major water main break that occurred on Kingsbridge Road at about 5 p.m.

According to City Manager Tim Grizzard, emergency crews have shut down Kingsbridge Road. Crews located an emergency valve, and were able to shut off water to repair the broken water main.

Grizzard said there is likely one other major water main break within the city that has not yet been located.

“We’ve got one major water main break that we have found, but—based on the amount of water pressure we are experiencing, we believe we have another major water main break somewhere,” said Grizzard. “We’re working round the clock right now to find the other break and try to repair it as soon as possible.”

Carrollton Fire Department Captain Ken Thompson said the break on Kingsbridge Road is on a section of pipe close to 20 feet in length.
“I’ve been told that it’s a 20-foot section of pipe that has busted,” said Thompson. “Right now, we are going around trying to figure out which areas are out of water.”

Restaurants on Adamson Square are closing as they cannot be open without running water as of 5:30PM. However some establishments are serving bottled water and obeying the boil water advisory later in the evening.

The University of West Georgia issued a statement to faculty and staff:

“The City of Carrollton is working diligently to isolate and keep water flow to the hospital. No further information is available as to the cause of the outage. Again, this extends beyond the city. It is unknown at this time how long this low flow/outage may last.”
