Big changes are coming soon to Douglasville in the form of a new grocery store and renovations to a fast food favorite. Development plans approved back in February outline major renovations to Chick-fil-A and the building of a new grocery store, Lidl.
“Plans have been provided, but the land transaction has not been completed. So, nothing is official at this point,” explained Building Official, Mike Mettler.
The German discount grocery chain (and main competitor to Aldi) has several store locations planned throughout Georgia. Lidl currently operates about 10,000 stores in 27 countries.
The project will feature a nearly 36,000 square foot brick facility and parking. The project will also feature easier access to the store and Chick-fil-A via a right turn only entryway and exit off Fairburn Rd.
Renovations plans for the Chick-fil-A located at 5888 Fairburn Road include an expanded building with a distinctive two-lane configuration. This setup will feature a lane that leads to a typical drive-thru window, while the other leads to a kiosk. The plans also include a brick and wood exterior with outdoor seating.
“It’s a fairly unique conveyor system,” said Mettler.
Plans are currently redlined and unavailable online. No official timeline or start date has been given.
