UWG Construction Update

UWG Biology Building

A new parking lot and a renovation and addition to an academic building highlight construction projects taking place at the University of West Georgia this summer.

This spring contractors completed the dismantling of the old substation equipment on West Georgia Drive next to the Murphy Building and across the street from the Tanner Health System School of Nursing, after work on the new substation along Stadium Drive was completed in March (read that story here). Now plans are underway to convert the old substation lot into parking. Approximately 45 spaces will be added in the new lot, which is phase one of a plan to eventually extend across where the tennis courts currently reside, providing convenient parking for events at the Campus Center Ballroom. That construction is expected to begin in July.

Just around the corner the renovations and addition to the 46-year-old Biology Building are well underway. Phase one, the 14,000-square-foot addition, is about 20-25% completed. With the recent wet weather having slowed things down just a bit, the anticipated completion date is in November. Then phase two, renovation of the existing 73,000-square-feet of the building, will begin. The whole project is expected to be completed by fall semester of 2018.
