Go for 30 With Move It Mondays

Going for 30 minutes of exercise a day, at least five days a week, is a great way to get and stay in shape.

Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is helping people get started with Move It Mondays, an eight-week program designed to turn walkers into joggers. In partnership with the West Georgia Track Club, Get Healthy, Live Well developed the free program to help participants add distance and increase their pace over the course of eight weeks. Move It Mondays has certified coaches and experienced runners available to encourage and motivate participants.

“Move It Mondays provides the perfect opportunity to get more physical activity and meet new people who can help motivate you to reach your health goals,” said Patricia Mitchell, wellness and prevention coordinator at Get Healthy, Live Well.

The next session of Move It Mondays will begin on Aug. 28, with a drop-in meet and greet from 5 to 6 p.m. at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton in Classroom 1. Regular meetings for the program will begin Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. on the walking trail on the Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton campus. Parking will be available in the Clinic Avenue Parking Deck.

Move It Mondays is part of Get Healthy, Live Well’s efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent chronic disease for residents in Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties. According to the American Heart Association, 30 minutes of physical activity a day, five days a week, can reduce the risk of cancer, depression, heart disease, high cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes.

“Thanks to our continued partnership with the West Georgia Track Club, we are able to provide the community with a program that can help them lead a happier and healthier life,” Mitchell said.
