(Last Updated On: December 21, 2017)

The University of West Georgia’s College of Education will host two-time Olympic gold medalist, Edwin Moses, for its fourth annual Dag Folger Speaker Series: Critical Topics in Education. The keynote speech, themed The Power of Quantum Performance, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in the UWG Coliseum, with an autograph session to follow.

“The College is Education is very excited to provide an opportunity for students and the community to engage with two-time Olympic gold medalist, Edwin Moses,” said Dr. Dianne Hoff, dean of COE. “He was a pioneer in using his degree in physics to study the kinesiology of his sport, shaving hundredths of a second off his time, which was the winning difference.”

“In addition to being one of America’s most acclaimed athletes, Dr. Moses is also an accomplished businessman, philanthropist and internationally featured speaker. Students, faculty, area athletes and community members will all be inspired and motivated by his presentation.”

Bringing home the gold is just one of life’s major successes for Moses, who holds a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University and an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts-Boston, in addition to a bachelor’s in physics from Morehouse College. He serves as chairman of The Laureus World Sport for Good Foundation, an organization that uses sports not only to ensure social change in the younger generation but also to leave a lasting impact on the youth of today.

As an international champion in the fight against drugs in sports, Moses is also chairman of the education committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency and the chairman of the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

More than three decades after being named Sports Illustrated’s Co-Sportsman of the Year, Moses also joined the roster of athletes featured on Wheaties cereal, a.k.a the Breakfast of Champions, in 2016.

Admission to the keynote speech is free, but registration is recommended at https://www.westga.edu/academics/education/dag-folger.php.
