Southwire to Host Disaster Relief Collection for Victims of Hurricane Irma

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, which leaves a path of devastation and flooding in Florida, Georgia and the surrounding areas, Southwire’s Project GIFT will host a disaster relief collection, beginning on Tuesday, September 19. The collection event will run through Wednesday, September 20.

The collection will be held in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter in Carrollton, Ga., from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. during the two-day event.

Hurricane Irma is the strongest hurricane to ever be recorded outside of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Its effects have reached at least nine U.S. states, causing flooding, home and building damage and power outages.

“We just saw an amazing response from this community for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, and we know that many of our friends and neighbors gave more than they ever have. For these efforts, we are truly thankful,” said Kristian C. Whittington, Southwire’s manager of employee engagement and communications and Project GIFT coordinator. “We can’t predict when disasters will occur, but we want to make sure we stand ready to help in the wake of Hurricane Irma as we always have.”

Items accepted through the collection include bottled water, paper goods, cleaning supplies, nonperishable food, baby items, pet supplies, personal hygiene products, ice chests and more. Clothing will not be accepted.

“Our community continues to show its unity and strength during times of natural disaster,” said Whittington. “We encourage all families, individuals, groups and businesses who are able to stop by and contribute.”
