A new soul food restaurant called Melbea’s Soul Food has opened in First Tuesday Mall. The restaurant is owned by Alton Douthit, who also owned Alton’s Smokehouse. Douthit said he closed Alton’s Smokehouse in order to open Melbea’s. “Melbea’s Soul Food is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” said Douthitt. “The restaurant idea was something my godmother always wanted to do. She passed away recently after battling cancer, so we wanted to dedicate the restaurant to her.” Melbea’s has a buffet-style selection featuring fried chicken, catfish, fresh vegetables, and desserts.
