Carrollton varsity basketball seniors signed off with a win on Senior night Friday night. The boys squad beat out fellow region foe Paulding County (7-AAAAA) with a 67-55 win. The Lady Trojans cruised to a 65-17 win over the Patriots in a big night for Carrollton basketball.

Interim Head Coach Paul Fitz-Simons noted that he was proud of his team for keeping the momentum and avenging a 80-77 loss to the Patriots in mid-December. The Trojans opened the game on an 8-0 run and never let the Patriots come within more than 7 points of tying the score.

Carrollton was led by a stellar performance from sophomore SG Marcellious Lockett. Lockett had 17 points in the first half alone, and finished with 21.

Robert Simmons and Timothy Green are the two lone seniors on the Trojan boys squad. Fitz-Simons noted that both players have been with the team since their freshman years.

“They were freshmen when we played in the state finals,” said Fitz-Simons. “Those two guys have done so much for us.”

Fitz-Simons commended Green on his defensive effort for the Trojans.

“Our guys had a gutsy effort, and I’m really proud of them,” said Fitz-Simons. “Timothy Green went out and played a great game tonight. There’s not a lot of glory in rebounds, but he got a lot of them for us.”

Green posted 15 total rebounds and 5 blocks against the Patriots. He finished the night with 8 total points scored. Junior Jeff Hodges finished the game with 10 points, while sophomore Melvin Edwards scored a total of 13 points for the Trojans.

The Trojans now move to a 13-5 overall record, and 6-3 in region competition.

Fitz-Simons said his squad is looking forward to its upcoming matchups against region competition with Kell tomorrow night, and Villa Rica on Tuesday. The Wildcats remain undefeated at 16-0. Carrollton lost a 54-51 heartbreaker against Villa Rica in the first meeting between the teams in December.

“Both of those teams are going to be really tough,” said Fitz-Simons. “Villa Rica is playing really well right now. kids know each other, the coaches know each other. They’re very competitive. We’re looking forward to facing them. It will be a lot of fun.”

The ladies team will graduate 7 seniors off their squad this year. Adasha Hendrix, Asha Mckinley, Taylor Brown, Ariel Butts, Ansley Barge, Elexus Bell, Erial Daniel are the 7 ladies that have poured their hearts and souls into this program and it shows with an impressive 14-4 overall record and an 8-1 region record.
