(March 6, 2018, Carrollton, Georgia). Central High School senior Carolina Butler was
named the Young Georgia Author for Carroll County. Young Georgia Authors is an
essay contest sponsored by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE). The
organization was established in 1923 and has been Georgia’s professional home for
English Language Arts teachers from pre-K to university levels.
The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage
students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide context tocelebrate their writing successes, and to recognize students achievement in arts and
academics. The YGA has been engaging Georgia students for more than two decades
and is open to any student currently enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K-12.
