Carrollton Main Street is preparing to host its 32nd annual Mayfest celebration this Saturday in downtown Carrollton. Carrollton Main Street Director Aundi Lesley says this year’s event is shaping up to be the largest Mayfest ever.
“As of right now, we have over 200 vendors who have signed up—as well as some who are signing up last minute,” said Lesley. “We’ve never had this many before, so we are very excited for this year’s Mayfest.”
Mayfest is an arts and crafts festival that started as a way to highlight local artists. Lesley said the event will feature arts and crafts vendors, as well as a children’s village, rock wall, food trucks, and many other attractions.
“It’s going to be fun for the whole family,” said Lesley. “There will be live entertainment from the Carrollton Academy of Dance and others at the Amp, and we will be kicking the day off with a family yoga session at 9:30 a.m. at the Amp.”
Lesley said the event will feature the annual Teen Idol contest, which has become a hit with participants and guests alike.
“We are really looking forward to this year’s Teen Idol competition,” said Lesley. “One of our winners from a few years ago, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, is now on American Idol, and is doing really well. It’s great to see a local talent who got their start here at Mayfest go all the way to do something like American Idol.”
Lesley is in her first year as Director for Carrollton Main Street and hopes this year’s event is the best one yet.
“We hope lots of people come out and enjoy a great day of fun and excitement in downtown Carrollton,” said Lesley. “There is no admission fee, but be sure to bring some cash to purchase some of the amazing items that will be on sale from local artists and vendors.”
