A local woman is using clothing items to create teddy bears that hold precious memories for her customers. Evonne Hightower started her business, Bear Hugs by Evonne, a few years ago with the intention of creating teddy bears that would help family members hold on to the memories of their loved ones.
Bear Hugs By Evonne creates specialized “memory bears” by using the clothing of loved ones. Each bear is unique in that it is made completely out of the clothing of a loved one of Evonne’s clients.
“I have always enjoyed sewing and giving handmade gifts,” said Evonne. “In December of 2014, I made Memory Bears for my mother and siblings from our daddy’s shirts. That turned into several requests from friends, and that is how Bear Hugs by Evonne came to be.”
Evonne says each bear has its own story behind it.
“These little bears are much more than fabric and stuffing,” says Evonne.
