A new fast food restaurant is under construction along Nathan Dean Parkway in Rockmart. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is set to open at 100 Felton Road in the site of the former Sonic.
Crews began work on the site in July, and the old Sonic was completely demolished to make way for the new restaurant. Director of Community Development Stacey Smith says workers are now pouring a concrete footing at the site.
“The company handling construction said it would take about 90 days to complete, so we expect it to be finished possibly by the end of October or the first of November,” said Smith.
Popeyes is one of the most popular fried chicken fast-food chains in the country. The restaurant chain was founded in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1972 and has since flourished into more than 2,600 restaurants in 40 states.
The restaurant’s menu is famous for its Louisiana Fried Chicken, as well as sandwiches, biscuits, and more. Popeyes already has many other locations in the west Georgia area, including Douglasville, Rome, Cartersville, and Hiram.
“We’re really excited about it,” said Smith. “Everyone is looking forward to seeing it open and having another restaurant in Rockmart.”
