Carrollton’s newest public safety upgrade will be on display for the community to see on August 30 when the Carrollton Fire Department hosts its open house for Fire Station 22, located at 802 Lovvorn Road in Carrollton.
“The new fire station was built and designed for growth,” said Fire Chief Jimmy Bearden. “This fire station is designed to accommodate growth in our department that will match our population’s future growth.”
Fire Station 22 will replace City’s old firehouse on Brumbelow Road, which was destroyed by a tornado on April 3, 2017.
“The old fire station in that area was built in 1979 and was in need of some major upgrades,” said Bearden. “The new fire station meets all the latest fire codes and has all the needed technological upgrades and equipment for us to better serve our community. It will also allow us to have the capabilities to expand into the future instead of having to make any additions or renovations down the road.”
Fire Station 22 currently has one engine crew and one reserve crew. Bearden said the site upon which the new fire station was constructed provides multiple new advantages for the Carrollton Fire Department over the old station.
“The old station was built up on a hill, so we weren’t able to park trucks out in front of it safely,” said Bearden. “The new fire station is on a flat site which will be much safer for us—especially when we experience winter weather and icy conditions.”
Bearden also noted that the new fire station is situated on the intersection of Lovvorn and Brumbelow Roads, which will provide four different access points that will help improve the Department’s response time in the area.
“We’re very thankful to have [the new station],” said Bearden. “The City really supported public safety by building this new fire station and meeting all codes that had to be met, as well as building it with the future in mind.”
Bearden invited members of the community to attend the open house, which will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on August 30 at Fire Station 22.
“We’re going to have an open house event and we want to invite the public to come out and tour the new facility and meet our firefighters,” said Bearden.
