Eighty-five visual artists and more than 50 musicians will venture from their galleries and stages into the community as downtown Carrollton welcomes the fourth annual Art Takeover, March 28th.
Organized by the Carrollton Center for the Arts, Carrollton Main Street and the University of West Georgia School of the Arts, Art Takeover is a festive evening on and around Adamson Square with downtown businesses hosting local visual artists and musicians.
“An artist’s work is not created in a vacuum,” said Carrollton Arts Superintendent Tim Chapman. “It reflects their view of the world that surrounds them. Art Takeover is an opportunity for our local artists to showcase their work in the community that inspired it.”
Participants stroll downtown and enjoy dinner, drinks and shopping, while taking the opportunity to meet the artists and even purchase their work. Carroll County’s Carroll Connection will provide continuous, free shuttle service along the route during the event. Artist awards will be presented at 6 pm at the Depot on Bradley.
An event map will be available at all participating Art Takeover locations. Each map contains an Art Find activity on the reverse side. Like a scavenger hunt, players who find at least 10 works of art depicted in the Art Find are eligible to win prizes and gifts in a drawing at the end of the evening.
“Art Takeover is a fun way to explore our vibrant downtown,” said Main Street Director Aundi Lesley. “Whether it is a culinary creation, a custom cocktail or a local’s art displayed, you will find our downtown altogether artistic.”
