Gradick Communications will host the first annual “Opioid Crisis: A Community Response 2019.” The panel lecture will examine how Carroll County is combating an epidemic that takes the lives of 130 Americans every day from overdoses; this number is six times higher than in 1999. In just Carrollton alone, opiod overdoses increased 48% from 2017 to 2018.
Five panelists from all different backgrounds will share their experiences with the opioid crisis and how we as a community are combating the epidemic and what can be done in the future.
The Panel will include:
- Det. Brandon Poderas with the Carrollton Police Department Drug Task Force
- Deputy Brian Sims with the Carroll County Sherriff’s Office Drug Task Force
- Shane Sauls an individual who struggled for 10 years with opioid addiction now Director of Marketing with the Blake House
- Brian Gibson with Tanner’s Primary Therapist at Willowbrooke at Tanner
- Captain Bill Messer with the Carrollton Fire Department
Each panelist will deliver an opening statement that is centered around the status of the opioid crisis in Carroll County and how the community is responding. Then panelists will answer questions provided by audience members for the remainder of the time. We will hold the panel discussion on April 24 from noon until 1:00 pm at City Station in Carrollton
A complimentary lunch will be provided by the Mustard Seed Cafe to all registered guests. Lunch will begin at 11:30 am.
