An exhibit opening at the Carrollton Center for the Arts on May 9 features images of landscapes, people and architecture local photographer Keith May took during his coast-to-coast travels across the United States.
“Keith is able to use his lens to celebrate his subject,” said Carrollton Arts Superintendent Tim Chapman. “He has a way of capturing moments that become life-long memories.”
May, who has taken photos for the Center for the Arts for two years, began his career in the art department of a rural newspaper before becoming an art director for magazines in California. After years spent editing other photographers’ work, May decided to become a photojournalist himself. A 2001 assignment to photograph the changing face of rural America had May traveling dirt roads and forgotten highways on a silver Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The scenes included in this collection are the product of his editor’s vague direction to “Go where the wind blows you and let pictures tell the story.”
