Hixtown Brewing Company: Hometown Brews and Entertainment

Fourteen years ago, husband and wife, Brian and Cindy Britt built their home in Villa Rica, Georgia, where he began crafting beer at home during his spare time. Following retirement, after 28 years of service with the United States Air Force, Brian knew he would open a microbrewery in his hometown. With trepidation but confidence in Brian’s plan, Cindy left her human services career to utilize her retail management experience as she jumped aboard the train to Hixtown.

Recently opened Hixtown Brewing Company at 407 Main Street in Villa Rica serves as the wedded team’s vision for a true hometown brewery. Hixtown serves craft beer that is made on the premises. “We have a fondness for German recipes, and our Hixtown Helles Lager sold out in the first three weeks,” said Brian. Patrons and friends of the owners have favored the Swheat Cherry Pie, an American wheat beer, and the Pony Club Porter, an English vanilla porter. The popularity of beers will determine what is returned to the taps for flagship brews.

Hixtown plans to keep three or four flagship beers on tap and rotate out three or four “one-off” brews according to the seasons. The brewery does not serve food, but is food friendly and patrons may bring in food or order from local restaurants. Hixtown features a non-smoking, family-friendly atmosphere. Cindy shared, “We have admired watching families with three generations come in and enjoy time together over a beer.”

The brew house is operated on a five-barrel system. “In the brewery industry, that’s considered pretty small. Folks have come in asking for the traditional brewery tour. Our answer is, ‘Look left. Okay, now look right!’ We have been overwhelmed by the excitement and community support in the few short weeks we’ve been open, already growing our family of ‘beerleaders’ that come in week after week,” said Cindy.

Starting June 12 Hixtown will begin trivia night every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with Duane Sohl. Each week will feature a different theme and trivia questions will include a visual presentation. If you are interested in joining, call (678) 952-6580  with your team size to reserve a table.

In addition live entertainment can be heard almost every Friday night beginning Friday, June 21. Entertainment will include acoustic guitars and singers. Plans are underway for additional entertainment on Thursdays and Sundays. Folks are glad to sort through a stack of old favorite board games. Patrons might hear a yell of “Yahtzee!” or “Sorry!” at any time.

Hixtown is open Wednesday and Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  However, they will stay open until midnight for concerts at Villa Rica’s Mill Amphitheater for the crowds that want to stay and play.
