The 4th Annual Education Collaborative Summit will take place on Thursday, July 18 at the University of West Georgia. The summit will have a special focus on three challenges: what happens to children from birth to age five that influences their future success, the overwhelming life issues that make it difficult for some students to succeed, and the transition from high school or college to careers. The keynote speaker this year is a master teacher and motivator, Adolph Brown. The Carroll County Education Collaboration is a collaboration of both county and city school systems, WGTC, UWG, Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, local industry and businesses, many nonprofits and community leaders. Through this collaboration, many partnerships, new programs and even some solutions have been initiated. This year more sessions have been added to focus on growing the future workforce and industry.

The program begins with a brief overview of what we can learn from career development research, followed by guided discussion among attendees about how you are helping students now and opportunities for improvement.
Industry Engagement for Impactful Workforce Development Programs

Breezy Straton, director of the Douglas County Development Authority’s office of existing industry, workforce & compliance, will share how to engage industry leaders in meaningful ways to develop and implement effective high school and college workforce development programs and initiatives. The discussion will go over strategies and how to’s that can be used for initial programs or to ignite existing strategies.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: Our Region by the Numbers

Overview of the key numbers that affect our communities in education, with specific focus on the three threads of this conference (Birth to age 5, overwhelming life challenges, and transition from school to employment). Dr. Rickman will give an overview of the state metrics, and Dr. Tripp will discuss metrics from the region.
