Douglas County: Overnight, Daytime Lane, Ramp Closures on I-20 Next Week

Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will implement lane closures on I-20 eastbound between Sweetwater Creek and SR 5/Bill Arp Road in Douglas County for deep milling, inlay and resurfacing on the interstate.  Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan for additional travel times, alternate modes of transportation and/or alternate routes to their destinations.

Weather permitting, the right lane and right shoulder lane on I-20 eastbound will be closed Wednesday, July 10 and Thursday, July 11 at various locations from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. the following mornings.

In addition, on Wednesday night, the ramp from SR 5/Bill Arp Road to I-20 eastbound will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto I-20 eastbound to the Post Road exit, for access to I-20 eastbound.

On Thursday night, both the SR 5/Bill Arp ramp and the Chapel Hill ramp from I-20 eastbound will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto I-20 eastbound to the Post Road exit, for access to I-20 eastbound. To access Chapel Hill, drivers will be detoured on I-20 eastbound to the SR 92 exit to return to I-20 westbound to Chapel Hill.

These activities are needed to improve the deteriorating condition of the roadway. Lane closures are needed to help ensure safety for drivers and workers, as large equipment and frequent truck movements are needed on-site for these activities.

Motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds while traveling through the work zone. As always, Georgia DOT encourages motorists to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
