The Carrollton Center for the Arts’ new exhibit, More Than a Trail: Exploring the GreenBelt, offers a virtual tour of Carrollton’s signature bike and pedestrian path through the paintings and drawings of artist, Greg Crimmins.
The exhibit, featuring illustrations of plants, animals and scenery encountered along the trail, kicks off the center’s new exhibit season.
“The GreenBelt has been the talk of the town since I moved to Carrollton three years ago,” said Arts Superintendent Tim Chapman. “The Center for the Arts wanted to celebrate it in a unique way.”
“By focusing on specific aspects of the GreenBelt that may often be overlooked, such as a single flower or insect, this exhibit allows the community to engage with our local habitat from several different perspectives,” said Arts Coordinator Marcella Kuykendall. “It encourages us all to discover and enjoy new facets of the GreenBelt.”
Crimmins earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Savannah College of Art and Design and has received Average Art Magazine and Adobe Design Achievement awards.
The exhibit, which is sponsored by Dr. Tee and Mrs. Dana Reeve, runs July 18-August 29, with an opening night reception at 5:00 p.m.
In conjunction with the exhibit, the Center for the Arts will host its latest Gallery Play Saturday event, Insects!, July 20, for young people, ages 8-12. After viewing the GreenBelt exhibit, students will explore techniques in drawing and watercolor as they create their own insect and botanical illustrations. The hour-long event starts at 1:00 p.m. and the registration fee is $5.
