Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will continue lane closures on I-20 eastbound and westbound between Thornton Road (exit 44) and SR 5/Bill Arp Road (exit 34) in Douglas County for deep milling, inlay and resurfacing on the interstate.
Weather permitting, these are the scheduled overnight and daytime closures:
I-20 eastbound:
- Two left lanes closed continuously beginning 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 9, 10 and 11 until 5:30 a.m. the following mornings.
I-20 westbound:
- The center lane and right lane closed continuously this weekend beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 9 until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, August 12.
Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan for additional travel times, alternate modes of transportation and/or alternate routes to their destinations. These activities are needed to improve the deteriorating condition of the roadway. Lane closures are needed to help ensure safety for drivers and workers, as large equipment and frequent truck movements are needed on-site for these activities.
Motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds while traveling through the work zone. As always, Georgia DOT encourages motorists to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
