The Georgia Department of Transportation has recently approved a Quick Response project to improve the safety and efficiency of the intersection of US 27 and Bremen-Mt. Zion Road near the Carroll/Haralson County line. Work on this high priority project is about to begin. It is expected to be completed in 60 days.
The contractor will install a Reduced Conflict U Turn (R-CUT) at the intersection of US 27 and Bremen-Mt. Zion Road, construct U-turns at the median crossover of Bremen-Mt. Zion Road and US 27, and stripe that median crossover.
Construction work may occasionally require the closure of the north and southbound inside lanes of US 27, one direction at a time.
“Transportation projects like this one continue to positively influence the lives of all Carroll County’s residents,” said Grant Waldrop, district engineer at the GDOT office in White.
The Georgia DOT Quick Response Program supports low cost operational projects on the State Route system such as re-striping, intersection improvements, turn lane additions and extensions. These project can be implemented in a short period of time and typically cost less than $200,000. They generally stay within the state right-of-way and require little if any utility relocation. Quick Response projects are identified by Georgia DOT staff and managed through the Office of Local Grants.
