With an emphasis on friendly service, business partners and couple Sherry Gaskins and Phillip Blevins are proud owners of Discount Salvage. Their discount store, located in the former space of Fred’s and Yazoo at 327 Carrollton Street, Temple, Georgia, will mark its second year in business this December.

The company purchases truck line freight, all of it brand new, along with in-date food. Sherry says, “We are a top-of-the-line salvage retailer with competitive pricing. We describe our stock as ‘‘nice and new” and see ourselves as a different kind of salvage store.”

Phillip says, “Just look for the orange label. There’s no guesswork here.” Their team makes sure that their orange labels are visible so customers can easily find the price and will not find another retailer’s label.

Both Sherry and Phillip explain, “We pride ourselves in being the friendliest business. We believe in the common courtesy of saying ‘hello,’ ‘thank you,’ and ‘We appreciate your business.’ Courtesy has been lost in much of the retail industry. It’s a dying art.”

Merchandise in Discount Salvage can vary from time to time; however, most of the everyday items include, groceries, clothing–for women, men, children, and babies–hardware, household items, outdoor living, small furniture, health and beauty items, and children’s toys. Sherry notes, “We do not buy water- or fire-damaged products or returns or insurance-claimed pallets. However, we do have a sale table for food that is recently expired for those interested.” Those looking for local products are in for a treat as the store carries Georgia Honey Bee products.

Discount Salvage also salutes each and every first responder, US armed forces members, teachers, and veterans everyday with a 10% discount. Customer loyalty discounts and incentives are also available.

Sherry commends her father, Thomas Keith, who has become the face of the business. She explains, “My father works as hard as any other employee. Even with his handicap he is a perfectionist. He looks forward to meeting people every day.”

Sherry summarizes the success of the store by thanking her staff. She explains, “My manager, Ginger Holland, and assistant manager, Destiny Fordham, both are twenty years old. I believe in hiring young people. They have the best ideas, work extremely hard, and treat my store like it is their own.” Sherry also recognized stock manager Jermaine McAuley and head cashier Gabby Dollar for their hard work.
