Almost nine years ago, the restaurant 302 South Street was opened with new ownership in Carrollton. Throughout the years the community has supported the restaurant’s unique environment and tasty food. This week owner Jacob Skelton shared the saddening news about the restaurant’s upcoming closure. The final day of service will be December 21, followed by a final celebration with a free feast of a buffet-style menu to clean out their remaining food inventory. Below is the full Facebook post from Jacob Skelton:

“What a long strange trip it’s been.

“This past 302 Day we made an announcement that we were celebrating our last 302 Day in this building; little did we know, unfortunately, that it was the beginning of the end of our 302 legacy.

“For the better part of a decade, our ultimate vision and goal for this concept has been hindered by several factors, most significantly the size and condition of our facility. Until recently, we truly believed we were going to be moving our dream into a new and improved building, one better suited for realizing our full potential. Through a myriad of highs and lows over the past few years, efforts to move forward with the new building have not gone according to plan.

“We have truly tried everything in our power to make something work, but unfortunately, due to the current condition of our facilities and a lack of support, time, and means necessary to complete much needed and extensive repairs and renovations, the outcome is ultimately out of our hands.

“It is with great sadness and dismay to say that our final day of service will be Saturday, 12/21/2019. This is not at all the way we intended things to shake out. This decision has not been made lightly. We have had an amazing run, and it has been a journey we will never forget. We have made so many great memories and cannot begin to express our level of gratitude for our loyal patrons. We hope you will all come by to see us and enjoy your favorite dish and a cold beverage before our final day of service.

“Now that the hard part is out of the way, we invite you all to join us in throwing an absolute ****-kicking-barn-burner on Sunday, December 22, 2019, the likes of which 302 has never seen. We hope that all of our friends, family, staff, brothers, sisters, freaks, and musicians, old and new, can join us in this monumental send off. Our goal is to eat and drink all remaining inventory. We will be accepting donations, but ultimately, your presence is what we desire most.

“We love you all more than words can say and sincerely thank you for your devoted patronage. We hope we have left you with as many positive memories as you have given us and hope you will understand and support us in our decision and future endeavors. We hold no ill will, and hope to close the curtain on this act gracefully and with our heads held high. Please continue to support your local independent small businesses, musicians, and artists; we can assure you that it means everything to them.

“This journey has far surpassed anything we could have dreamed or imagined possible and hope that one day the stars will align and allow us to serve you again in the future. I would be remiss to finish this without praising our loyal, hard working staff, many of which have been with us since the beginning. They have been the backbone of this organization, and it has truly been one of the great honors of my life to work alongside them. We have all shed our share of blood, sweat, and tears into this endeavor, and I know they will all go on to be successful in any endeavor they desire to pursue. So once again thank you all for your support and patronage; it has truly been a pleasure. Everybody love everybody, and be good to each other… it’s the right thing to do.”

–Sincerely, Jacob Skelton & 302 Crew
