UPDATE: 12/9/2019 THE DETOUR HAS BEEN CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Georgia DOT contractors will install a new temporary detour on Brown Street near State Route (SR) 92 in the City of Douglasville for the ongoing State Route (SR) 92 Relocation and Widening project in Douglas County.

Beginning Monday, December 9, crews will install a partial road closure on Brown Street near its intersection with SR 92/Dallas Highway. It is scheduled to remain in place for one or two weeks, dependent on weather and on-site conditions. The work related to this new closure is phase two of four phases of utility work and road construction in the area.

This new temporary closure is in close proximity to Riley’s Early Learning Academy on Brown Street North. During this phase of work, parents and employees will not have access to the Academy via SR 92/Dallas Highway from the west but will have access to westbound Brown Street North from Colquitt Street.

Detour RoutesMotorists heading southbound on SR 92 to Riley’s Early Learning Academy and Jessie Davis Park will be directed to continue southbound on SR 92, make a left (eastbound) onto East Strickland Street, then left (northbound) onto Colquitt Street.  Continue on Colquitt Street until it dead-ends at Brown Street, make a left (westbound) and turn right (northbound) on Old Dallas to access the Academy and the Park.  Motorists leaving this area will not have direct access to SR 92 from westbound Brown Street.

Motorists heading northbound on SR 92 to the Academy and Jessie Davis Park will be directed to make a right (eastbound) onto East Strickland Street, then turn left (northbound) onto Colquitt Street. Continue on Colquitt Street until it dead-ends at Brown Street and make a left (westbound) and turn right (northbound) on Old Dallas Road to access the Academy and the Park.

This temporary road closure and traffic detour will allow work crews 24/7 access to the project site with safety for workers and space for large equipment without compromised driver safety and traffic interruption.  Crews have recently completed work that required a temporary detour for access to Jessie Davis Park from SR 92, allowing the contractor to complete the required grading, pipe installation and pond installation on this site.

Motorists are advised to plan to travel alternate routes while the detour is in place.  Please exercise caution and reduce speeds while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
