The Newnan Carnegie Library is proud to host the Archaeology of Israel led by curator Christy Barker, M.A. on Thursday, January 16th from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. The lecture will focus on interesting archaeological sites around Israel including Masada, Herod’s palace-fortress in the Judean desert, Caesarea Maritima, the lavish Roman capital of Judea, and Tel Dan, a center of ancient idol worship. A Q&A will follow.
“We are excited to bring a lecture on a topic requested by our patrons led by someone who has not only visited but has truly explored the lands through archaeological excavation” states Senior Carnegie Assistant of Adult Program, Brittany Partington.
Christy Barker is the Curator, and Assistant Director of Education and Programs at the Biblical History Center in LaGrange, Georgia. She graduated with her Master’s in History from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her Master’s thesis was titled, “An Archaeological History of Qumran,” about her participation in the 2017 archaeological excavation of Cave 53 near the plateau. This was the first archaeological team to find a Dead Sea Scroll in nearly 60 years.
