Together, with more than 10 years of experience, Sydney Samson, Lucy Rudeseal, and Doug Ragan recently opened the Sacred Sparrow Tattoo Studio in the former space of Black Water Ink at 408 Maple Street in Carrollton.
With a completely remodeled interior, relaxing ambience, and new perspective, the artist trio take pride in their custom work and find power in providing tattoo and piercing services to clients. “We’re in the fine-artistry and craftsmanship business, with a talking canvas,” said studio owner Sydney.
Born and reared in Carrollton, Sydney tells us, “I’ve always had a passion for art, but it was not until I took a tattoo apprenticeship that I found a love for tattooing. Many of our clients request tattoos for symbolic purposes, and there’s something special about that experience.”
Lucy Rudeseal, also from Carrollton says, “By meeting people of all walks of life, I believe there is a constant reminder of the idea that we live on the same planet, but in different worlds. The thing I look forward to most is connecting with people and providing them with exactly what they want.”
Previously a content producer for Cartoon Network, Doug says, “We strive to make everyone feel comfortable. We have a focus on the whole experience to ensure clients have a relaxing environment. In most cases, we become friends with our clients and we encourage them to hang out in our studio.”
The Sacred Sparrow will host a Friday the 13th special and open studio on March 13, 2020.
From 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.that day they will offer $13 tattoos with $7 tip for good luck on a first-come, first-serve basis.
From 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. they will host an open studio event. During the open event, everyone is welcome to tour the studio, enjoy music and refreshments, see the artists’ work showcased, and meet the artists.
A raffle drawing will also be held during the open studio night. Raffle ticket prices are based on three levels of entry, $1 ticket for a chance to win a Sacred Sparrow t-shirt, $2 ticket for a $35 piercing, and a $4 ticket for a $120 tattoo gift card drawing. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the studio.
