The Georgia Department of Transportation is working along South Park Street in Carrollton. Construction crews are taking advantage of the lessened traffic volume to complete a project that will improve safety.
The tricky intersection of South Park Street at Wedgewood Drive near Waffle House will undergo a significant sight distance improvement. GDOT communications officer, Joe Schulman tells us, “Crews are updating the southbound turn lane on SR 1/US 27 to improve the sight distance for left-turning vehicles. During the construction, the median and the left turning lane will be closed. Delays are possible during the construction, which is expected to be completed within three months.”
The southbound left turn lane of SR 1/US 27 at the intersection with Wedgewood Drive will be updated by offsetting the left turn lane from the rest of the through travel lanes.
Once the southbound side of South Park Street is completed, crews will install a separate northbound left turn lane to make it easier for those drivers to turn onto Wedgewood Drive. Joe notes, “At this time a traffic signal will not be installed.”
