Carroll County School System is pleased to announce the addition of two new Assistant Principals for the 2020-2021 school year.
Rick Murphy will serve as Assistant Principal of Roopville Elementary School (RES). During his 30-year career, Mr. Murphy has served as a teacher, coach, administrator, and as an independent consultant assisting school systems with administrator training. He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in secondary education, P-12 administration and supervision from Jacksonville State University. Mr. Murphy has also completed numerous educational training courses, certifications, and leadership programs.
Marla Turpin, Principal of RES stated, ”The staff at RES and I are excited that Mr. Murphy will be joining us. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help continue the long tradition of excellence at Roopville Elementary. We know that he will be a great addition to the RES family.”
Jeremiah Yates will serve as an Assistant Principal at Central Middle School (CMS). Mr. Yates joined the Carroll County School System eight years ago, and most recently served as a science teacher at Bowdon High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of West Georgia and a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Yates and his wife, Lauren, have invested many hours volunteering and supporting the Central Cluster through the years, and their two sons attend Central Elementary School.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Mr. Yates to the Lion family. His positive attitude, demeanor, and work ethic will help Central Middle continue to be a premier school in our community,” said Kelly Edwards, Principal of Central Middle School.
Scott Cowart, Superintendent of Carroll County Schools added, “Both RES and CMS have long-standing traditions of academic excellence and have earned state recognition for innovative learning practices. We look forward to each of these administrators using their expertise to continue to provide premier experiences for our students.”
