Three Poag Shopping Centers in the Atlanta Market Earn GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation

The Avenue East Cobb, The Avenue West Cobb and The Avenue Peachtree City becomes the first centers of their kind in Georgia to receive this certification, underscoring the company’s commitment to safety and cleanliness

The Avenue East Cobb and The Avenue West Cobb in Marietta, GA along with The Avenue Peachtree City in Peachtree City, GA  today announced that they each have achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation, the gold standard for prepared facilities. Under the guidance of GBAC, a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, these premier lifestyle centers will implement the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention in its facility.

As the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation, GBAC STAR™ helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training and assesses a facility’s readiness for biorisk situations. The program verifies that The Avenue East Cobb, The Avenue West Cobb and The Avenue Peachtree City implement best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the retail real estate industry we recognized the need to go above and beyond previously accepted standards and seek out innovative solutions to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the center, said Andrew Moth, Regional General Manager, Poag Shopping Centers.  “We are proud that our centers are the among the first shopping centers in the US to receive GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation.”

“GBAC STAR accreditation empowers facility owners and managers to assure workers, customers and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to maintain clean and healthy environments,” said GBAC Executive Director Patricia Olinger. “By taking this important step to pursue GBAC STAR, The Avenue East Cobb, The Avenue West Cobb and The Avenue Peachtree City have each received third-party validation that they follows strict protocols for biorisk situations, thereby demonstrating its preparedness and commitment to operating safely.”

To achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, the center has demonstrated compliance with the program’s 20 core elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.
