Naomi Norbraten Awarded Full Academic Scholarship to Yale

Central High School senior, Naomi Norbraten, has been awarded a full academic scholarship to Yale University. Naomi is part of this year’s QuestBridge recipients.

A full academic scholarship to Yale is valued at nearly $300,000. Naomi plans to study astrophysics or molecular biology.

QuestBridge is a national non-profit program based in Palo Alto, California, that connects exceptional, high- achieving high school seniors from low- income backgrounds with full four-year scholarships to the nation’s top colleges. By recruiting, developing, and motivating these students, QuestBridge aims to help talented students attend the nation’s best colleges and to support them to achieve success in their respective careers and communities.

Out of over 18,500 applicants, QuestBridge selected 6,885 finalists to be considered for the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship. This year, QuestBridge’s 42 college partners matched with a record number of 1,464 finalists.

Naomi was born in Miami, Florida and moved to Carrollton when she was 10 years old. She enjoys reading, sewing and cooking. Naomi is an active member of the Drama Club and Academic Team. One of her favorite pastimes is stargazing and keeping track of constellation cycles, planet positions and meteor showers.

Earlier this year Naomi was named a 2021 Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. She has been the top-ranking member of her class each year of high school.

“Naomi is a brilliant, young woman who has a true love of learning. Her positive energy and natural grace inspires those around her to be better at whatever they are doing,” stated Central High School Principal Mr. Jared Griffis. He continued, “The best part of my job is watching young people, like Naomi, reach for their dreams and achieve success.”
