East Coweta High School will hold their 2021 Graduation ceremony on one night – Friday, May 28 – in light of an executive order which has lifted many COVID restrictions.
Governor Kemp’s Executive Order 04.30.21.01 removed several public COVID-19 restrictions, including limitations of crowd size in public gatherings. East Coweta High had originally planned to hold two graduations, splitting their large graduating class between two nights, to allow for greater family participation at commencement ceremonies. The new order allows the school to recombine the graduation ceremony into one event.
Other COVID precautions will be observed by high schools, and encouraged with attendees, during the graduation events. The order issued on April 30 removes limitations on crowd sizes during outdoor activities, so no student tickets will be issued for the three graduation events.
This year’s high school graduations will all be in-person, on the schools’ home fields. The dates and times are:
- Newnan High School’s graduation will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, at Drake Stadium
- Northgate High graduation will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 28, on Henry Seldon Field
- East Coweta’s Graduation will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 28 at Shoemake Stadium

“These students deserve to graduate together, all at one time,” said East Coweta Principal Steve Allen. “I am excited for everyone that we can do this, and I look forward to seeing everyone together at Shoemake Stadium on May 28.”
Newnan High School announced last week that their 2021 graduates would be able to attend commencement ceremonies in Drake Stadium on May 27. The Newnan High Campus has been closed for inspection and repair since it was struck severely by the March 26 tornado. The 2021 NHS commencement ceremony will shift to 5:00 p.m. that day so the ceremony can be held during daylight hours, since the storm damaged the field’s lighting.
East Coweta will run shuttle service to and from the stadium on May 28, from sites at Lee and Poplar Road. Newnan High School will run shuttle service to and from their campus on May 27 from the University of West Georgia Newnan Campus. Additional information concerning parking for both schools will be shared in the near future.
More information on 2021 graduations, inclement weather back-up plans (rain dates), arrival times, parking, and other event plans will be available on the high school’s websites.
