Winning the Race: State Track Champions Honored by City of Bremen

Five youth and two coaches were recognized by the city of Bremen last week for their amazing athletic accomplishments at a recent state track championship. The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) held the 2021 Class B/C State Track Meet in Jefferson, Georgia,  April thirtieth through May first. Bremen participated in the Class B/C division which consists of agencies in counties that have a population of up to 15,000 youth who are ages 17 and under.

At the Bremen City Council meeting on Monday, May seventeeth, the following future track stars were honored for winning the state championships in their respective events:

  • Gemma Baskin won the state championship in both the 800m and 1600m events for the 9-10 Girls division.
  • Cohen Acker, Luke Freeman, Johnny Price, and Brendan Young won the state championship in the 4x400m relay in the 9-10 Boys division.

The participants from Bremen were proudly coached by Head Coach Kris Baskin and Assistant Coach Josh Buttram, who were also honored at the meeting.

According to Bremen Parks and Recreation Director Matt Cody, “We are very proud and excited for the accomplishment our track athletes made this year at State. We acknowledge the hard work all of our participants put in, the coaches that gave of their time, and the parents for their commitment to getting their child to practice and all the meets.”

Bremen Parks and Recreation recently wrapped up their 2021 spring sports season where 667 youth participated.
