Mara Di Salvatore, Owner of Baraca Plants + Pots, explains, “We carry a great selection of plants. I am always trying to get some popular items that you can’t find at big retail stores, but also I want to offer those signature plants that are easy to care for. Our plants are healthy plants and we take good care of them. We want to make sure everyone takes home a happy plant.”
Mara reveals the inspiration behind the commencement of Baraca Plants + Pots. “Both my mother and mother-in-law are plant lovers, so it’s fair to say I’ve had quite the exposure to plants in my life. When we moved to our first house, I knew what my first purchase was going to be: a fiddle leaf tree, and that is how my love for house plants started. During the COVID quarantine, my husband and I had the idea of opening a plant shop in our town, and why not? Here we are, almost a year later, in October, more than happy to provide people with beautiful plants, while teaching our customers how to care for them.”
Baraca Plants + Pots carries a variety of handmade pottery. “The idea of opening the shop was together with Rich Brown, from Pottery32. His pottery is amazing and we thought our plants would look beautiful in pots made by him. He makes functional pottery as well, such as mugs, plates, bowls, and more. Our newest potter addition to the shop is Sofia of Lo Hecho a Mano. She is from Argentina. Her pottery has interesting shapes and textures and is unique,” Mara emphasizes.
“Right now Baraca Plants + Pots is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On every third Saturday of the month we join an event in Downtown Hogansville that is called ‘Alive After Five,’ during which all the shops stay open until 8:00 p.m. There are also food trucks and live music, so it’s a fun event for everyone!” Mara describes.
“Plants are truly a blessing,” Mara happily translates what “Baraca” means. “Plants can bring so much joy to your home. Our goal as our shop grows is to have workshops and classes to teach people about plants and have them experience the excitement these plants and a little dirt can bring.”
