Northgate High Presented with 2020-2021 UGA Director’s Cup

Northgate High School has been presented with the University of 2020-21 Georgia’s Director’s Cup, for having the highest-achieving first-year students at UGA during last school year.

The award recognizes that Northgate’s cohort of graduates who enrolled at UGA last year had a higher first-year GPA than any other high school represented at the school.

High schools who enroll 10 or more of their students as first-year UGA students are eligible for consideration each year. The 10 Northgate alumni who enrolled as first-year students at UGA in the fall of 2020 achieved a 3.85 first-year cumulative GPA last year, higher than any other eligible high school.

“Each year the University of Georgia Office of Admissions presents a Georgia high school with the UGA Director’s Cup, and award to acknowledge the high school whose students have earned the highest cumulative GPA at the completion of their first year,” said Barkley Barton, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at UGA, in a letter notifying the school of the honor.

“This award is a reflection of the excellent academic preparation that students receive at Northgate High School,” said Barton. “Your teachers, administration and staff are to be commended” for equipping their students “with the skills and the knowledge necessary to be successful at the post-secondary level.”

“We are very excited for Northgate for this statewide recognition,” said Northgate Principal Ashley Wilkes. “It says a lot for our students’ continued success beyond Coweta County School System’s doors and how much their journey through our school system prepares them for post-secondary success.”
