The LaGrange Youth Council raised nearly 12-hundred dollars at their “I Sweat Green” Fun Run Fundraiser. Dozens of people participated in the event along The Thread Trail Saturday, April 9th. All of the money raised will go to Calumet Park Neighborhood’s Community Garden called Pat’s Garden. Patricia Underwood owned a corner store in Calumet Park and cared for many of the neighborhood children. In early 2020, “Ms. Pat”, as she was affectionately known, was shot by a stray bullet and killed. Citizens of Calumet Park are set to begin construction on a community garden in her name that will benefit the entire community.
“We are extremely proud of what the Youth Council has accomplished with this fun run,” said LaGrange Youth Council Advisor Adam Speas. “Their passion for this project has turned it into a huge success. We are seeing future leaders in action, and that’s an exciting thing to witness.”
